Junior Campus

Social Justice

At St Bernardine Junior Campus, we believe that faith without action is incomplete. From the earliest years of schooling, we invite our students to open their eyes to the world, to see those in need, and to respond with the generosity, courage and compassion that defines a life lived in the spirit of Jesus. Our commitment to social justice is woven into the fabric of who we are. It is not a separate program, but an expression of our Catholic identity, our values and our daily culture of care for one another.

Compassion in Action — Our Values in Practice

The College value of Compassion calls us to see the dignity of each person and to respond to need with hospitality, service and solidarity with the vulnerable. On our campus, this begins in the classroom, in how students treat one another, in how they speak, in how they include and welcome, and it extends outward into our local community and our world.

Local Action

Our school community reaches out to those in need in our local area. Through student-led initiatives and community partnerships, students learn to see and respond to the needs of those around them, in our neighbourhood, in our suburb, and across the North Shore. Even the smallest acts of service such as a meal prepared, a donation collected, a card written can carry profound meaning when they flow from a heart that genuinely cares.

Student Leadership in Justice

Through student-led social justice groups and initiatives, even our youngest students learn to identify needs, propose responses, collaborate with peers and take responsibility for outcomes.

The Siena Student Leadership Framework describes our aim to form students who are “Acting in the World” and discovering purpose and taking meaningful action. Social justice formation is central to this: it teaches students from kindergarten onwards that their choices, their voices and their actions have the power to make a difference.
