HPGE & Diverse Learning
High Potential and Gifted Education
At St Bernardine Campus, we cater for a range of needs which encompass all aspects of child development, including physical, social, emotional, behavioural and cognitive. We are committed to meeting the needs of all our students by providing enriching and extended learning opportunities. We recognise that high potential and gifted students deserve rigorous, engaging, and individualised learning experiences that align with their strengths, interests, and academic needs. Our High Potential and Gifted Learner program recognises students’ abilities as we adjust for the child as we aim for the child to reach their potential and enjoy learning.
SPARK Enrichment
SPARK (Supporting Potential Among Remarkable Kids) is our program for high-potential students in K–6 who require additional academic challenge. Identified through a structured process, students are supported by our HPGL coordinator, Mrs Alison Perosin, who works with teachers to provide enriching learning experiences. Through SPARK and collaborative academy sessions with other schools, students extend their talents across areas such as STEM, Mathematics, English and Creative Arts.
Maths Olympiad
The Maths Olympiad is a distinctive program offered to gifted and high-achieving mathematics students in Stage 3. This prestigious international competition challenges students to apply their mathematical talents in creative ways, solving complex problems alongside peers from Australia and New Zealand. Unlike traditional problem-solving methods, the focus of the Olympiad is on innovative thinking and developing unique approaches to mathematical challenges.
AGAT Testing
From Year 2 onwards our students are tested using the AGAT tool. This testing process identifies students with high capabilities in creative and critical thinking.
